St Fort Country House in Clarens sits in a beautiful setting
People feel stuck at home with the coronavirus. Many of them prefer not travelling at all. But everyone dreams about a return to normality. Some people dream of flying away to exotic destinations overseas. But in South Africa, blessed with beautiful places, you don’t need an overseas destination for quality and beauty. And, the small town of Clarens rapidly became popular with views of the stunning Maluti Mountains. The town offers many activities like hiking and biking and set about the place, you’ll find many unique boutique outlets.
Conveniently just three hours from Johannesburg and Durban, Clarens becomes a favourite weekend destination. Outdoor activities also stretch to horse riding, river rafting, golf, skydiving, and quad biking. St Fort Country House offers visitors a beautiful setting with hiking right on your doorstep. Oh, and don’t forget the camera at home. Golden Gate National Park, just down the road, offers striking views of golden sandstone cliffs.
Sandstone buildings at the farm destination
Authentic, the guesthouse is constructed from local sandstone. A sense of history comes as the original building was built way back in 1913. But, don’t expect cold and draughty. Fully refurbished, it now offers a big house with three en-suite bedrooms. Then, there’s a family unit with two en-suite bedrooms. And a garden cottage right out of the fairytales. And depending on the weather, you may make use of heating, fans, or a log fire. Stunning hiking is available, but you don’t need to even do that. If you prefer, just sit there and enjoy the natural beauty around you.
Worried about COVID-19? Well, St Fort Country House complies fully with the regulations. And the management requests that you respect social distancing and make use of sanitisers. Take along your own food as the place offers services for self-catering guests only. If you need extra cleaning then you should make arrangements ahead of time. On the weekends, they don’t usually service your accommodation. Oh, and take along some extra wood for use after the first night.
The St Fort website notes the “home-stead is perfect for hosting families needing time away.” Or for “couples escaping their hum-drum lives.” Perhaps you just want to catch up “with friends.” Whatever your reason for staying at St Fort Country House, you will enjoy a “hearty home where the sense of space and freedom is inescapable.”
